ACE Self Management and Self Direction

Course Information

Successful students must have a good understanding of their strengths as well as the areas for improvement that they bring to the learning environment and to the workplace. This course provides students with the opportunity to learn about communicating effectively, managing time wisely, setting goals, participating as an effective member of a team and developing techniques to enhance self-esteem. In addition, students will have the opportunity of examining, managing and engaging in their own career building process. They will research the career planning process and labour market information, and the trends affecting the current work world. As well, students will examine the Essential Skills framework in relation to employer expectations. Students will learn how to effectively set personal goals, and then research and plan how to achieve their career goals. They will use computers for research and word processing purposes. In all cases, students will select outcomes related to their own personal background and educational/vocational goals.
